Terms of Service

 

The following rules govern the use by you of Iowa PBS Iowa Science Phenomena website. The rules set forth herein apply to all materials, online communications and other information that is or becomes available on Iowa PBS's Web sites (collectively, "Information"). BY SIGNING ON AND USING Iowa PBS's WEBSITES, YOU SPECIFICALLY AGREE TO ABIDE BY THESE RULES AND ANY MODIFICATIONS THERETO.

 

1. Personal Uses Permitted

Iowa PBS's Websites are online information exchange services for use by Iowa PBS and the general public. You shall not post, submit, publish, transmit, reproduce, distribute or in any way use or exploit any Information for commercial purposes or otherwise use the Information in a manner that is inconsistent with these rules and regulations.

2. Contributor Guidelines

  • Teachers, other educators and partner organizations are invited to use the Iowa Science Phenomena website to create and share Iowa-specific classroom content.
  • We encourage teachers and other users to share resources outside the site in order to promote the use of local, Iowa-based science content in the classroom.
  • When publishing, educators should respect the privacy considerations of peers and others in their community. See Iowa PBS’s Privacy Policy.
  • Educators and writers should review our Terms of Use. By signing on and/or submitting information to this website, you agree to the Iowa PBS Terms of Use. Please read the terms carefully before posting to, or creating any content.
  • Website users should report problems or concerns to administrators by flagging content on the site using by emailing us at phenomena@iowapbs.org.

 

3. Disclaimer

  • Content on this Website expresses the research and opinions of the Service Participants, and do not necessarily reflect the views of Iowa PBS or any of the Iowa PBS-related partners. The administrators of this Service do not typically edit participants’ posts or other submitted content and cannot confirm the accuracy or reliability of their submissions. Each Participant is solely responsible for the information, analysis, and/or recommendations contained in their submitted content.

 

4. Moderation Policy

  • Posted content on this Website is subject to review and moderation by Iowa PBS to maintain the quality of participation for this forum to remain productive, respectful, and inclusive. Participants may flag comments or content by reporting problems for administrative review.
  • Iowa PBS maintains the right to edit or remove content posted at our discretion if said content:
  • Is obscene;
  • Is unrelated to the general area of interest of the Website;
  • Advertises products, services, or Websites;
  • Visually depicts sexual conduct by children;
  • Is directed to incite or produce imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action;
  • Contains a commercial message that is either misleading or relates to unlawful activity;
  • Is directed to incite or produce imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action;
  • A reasonable person, familiar with the context, would interpret the content as a serious expression of an intention to inflict bodily harm;
  • Compromises the safety or security of the public or public systems;
  • Include racial, gender-based, or sexualized slurs or attacks, harassment or abuse of content authors or fellow Website members;
  • Contains private personal information or private medical information of any person, such as social-security numbers, phone numbers, or home addresses;
  • Infringes on any copyright or other legal ownership interest of any other party;
  • Is comprised of malicious code that contains a virus, worm, defect, trojan horse or any other item of a destructive nature that may interfere or disrupt the State of Iowa’s technology services, servers, computer systems or networks.
  • Iowa PBS reserves the right to refuse to post or to remove any Information that is, in Iowa PBS's sole discretion, unacceptable, undesirable or in violation of these rules. However, Iowa PBS has no obligation to exercise such reservation of rights by Iowa PBS.
  • In cases where Iowa PBS edits submitted content or posts, every effort will be made to notify the individual who originally posted or submitted the content.
  • This project is designed to be in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule (COPPA). If you are a teacher or other educator, you represent and warrant that you have permission and authorization from your school, district and/or organization to use the Services as part of your curriculum, and for purposes of COPPA compliance, you represent and warrant that you are entering into these Terms on behalf of your school, district and/or organization.
  • When posting or submitting any content that is created by or features students under the age of 18, you also warrant and represent that you have all the necessary permissions required by your district or institution’s acceptable use policy and that you are in compliance with protections afforded minors as per U.S. law. Furthermore, you warrant and represent that you have protected the privacy of minors in your content, including removing student names and other identifiers as per U.S. Law and your institutions acceptable use policy.
  • You agree that you will not knowingly and with intent to defraud provide material and misleading false information. You represent and warrant also that the content you supply does not violate these Terms and that you will indemnify and hold Iowa PBS harmless for any and all claims resulting from content you supply.
  • You understand that all content posted or submitted to the Website is the sole responsibility of the individual who originally posted or submitted the content. You understand, also, that all opinions expressed by users of this Website are expressed strictly in their individual capacities and not as representatives of Iowa PBS or any of its partners.
  • You agree that Iowa PBS will not be liable, under any circumstances and in any way, for any errors or omissions, loss or damage of any kind incurred as a result of use of any content posted or submitted on this Website. You agree that you must evaluate and bear all risks associated with the use of any content, including any reliance on the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of such content.

YOU ALSO AGREE TO DEFEND, INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS, Iowa PBS AND THE MEMBER STATIONS, FROM AND AGAINST, ANY AND ALL CLAIMS OR LIABILITY, INCLUDING COSTS AND ATTORNEYS FEES, ARISING FROM OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF Iowa PBS's WEBSITES OR FAILURE TO ABIDE BY APPLICABLE LAW.
